On the Cover: The Independence Community Garden is just several blocks away from the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C. The garden is located on Independence Avenue and 6th Street, SW. It is a model city community garden. The garden is situated between the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum and the U.S. Department of Education and other federal office buildings. Among heavy commuter and tourist traffic, the garden is still a fertile home to many vegetables and flowers such as tomatoes, peppers, kale and sunflowers.
